Once Upon A Time...

There used to be a daily stop on the Internet for many Mac users called ResExcellence. An ancient Mac Hack site, this was the place to stop for new system modifications, appearance overhauls, tips and tricks, etc. Over the years, the site changed ownership and then fell sadly into disrepair and, as these things go, slipped into pointless obscurity.

Recently, some of the good folks from Unsanity (another well-known Mac Hack site) picked up ResExcellence, not unlike someone picking up the rusted-out body of a classic car from an old farm field, and plan to help the phoenix rise from its ashes.

At this point, progress certainly seems slow and all we get are very infrequent blog updates, but old Macheads should remain alert for the resurgence of a once-great Mac-oriented resource. Let's hope Brian Wilson and company do it right.

Defiant To The End: Dead, Angry, Old Guy

I can't say he'll be missed, but after being a 40-year veteran CIA resource, how did he think things were going to end? Certainly not well.

Ironically, both Muslims and...I'm not sure I get this...Communists in India are protesting the execution, indicating their disfavor with the U.S. and George Bush. Puppet Government or not, Hussein was still ordered to hang by the Iraqi government, not the U.S. But, who listens to Communists anyway.

Interesting days and an interesting New Year ahead.

"Holiday" Trees

This story makes Baby Jesus cry.

Note that the article (and quotes within) refer to the Christmas trees as "holiday trees," because we sure wouldn't want anyone to flip out because the word "Christmas" was used.

All of this started because Rabbi Elazar Bogomilsky threatened to sue (SUE!) the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for displaying Christmas trees, but no menorah. The man actually felt compelled to litigate because the airport did not offer a nod to his particular brand of belief in the unknowable.

Over the past couple of holiday seasons I felt that we were bravely moving away from the PC-ification of Christmas, but it seems this issue has flared up all over again. I think that if everyone can acknowledge that Christmas is much more of a commercial holiday than a Christian one, we can move away from this. After all, you don't hear complaints from non-Christians that they are offended by Valentine's Day because they don't believe in St. Valentine.

Christmas belongs to retailers, super shopping centers, and commercial advertisers, not the Christians. It's only fair they lose it, since the Christians stole the holiday from the pagans in the first place.

CNN explains why you should not immediately throw your iPod in the trash and buy a Zune.

I like when the female anchor wips out her matchbook-sized iPod Shuffle. And, best quote comes from the anchor in the middle, in reference to Microsoft and the Zune, "Why don't they get some decent design people to make things look better?"
